About
this site While you're here, PLEASE look at the rest of the site--at least look at the home page before leaving to see what else we offer. This link to the home page activates our site directory on the left side of the page. Go the Site Map to get a complete picture of what's on the site (with links). Our site was featured as representing the best of Province 3 of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America (ECUSA) in the November 4, 2001 edition of The Living Church, one of eight sites featured nationwide. The Christ Episcopal Church web site was created March 31, 1997, and the home page had accumulated approximately 42,000 "hits" as of April 1, 2006. The site itself sustains many more visits than this number as many of our visitors access certain pages directly, which of course precludes them from the privilege of being able to use our frames pages with the menu buttons on the left side of the screen. We believe this site to be the largest Episcopal Church site in the United States. If you know of one larger, please let us know, and we will give it due credit! This claim is based upon the number of pages, not the total file space required to store the site. The site is very efficiently constructed and requires minimal server space. Most pages should load reasonably quickly--even those with many photographs. The largest files on the site are our newsletter files (The Rainbow) and sermons in RealAudio. To gain maximum benefit, your browser must be capable of viewing frames and tables. It is highly recommended that it be at least Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or Netscape 3.0 in order to view many features on this site. Some features do not view well with Netscape. The latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer is 7.x, and Netscape is 8.x. The site is designed to display well with a monitor set at a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. 17" monitors and larger can, for most people, use 1024 x 768 resolution, and in isolated cases even greater resolution. There is one Java script on the home page of the site. This script presents our mission statement. We also have a number of tables. Plug-in features such as Flash may be added in the future, as our users gain capabilities with more advanced browsers and plug-ins. Understand how the site is laid out by clicking on "site map" at the top of the home page. Although this map is not entirely up-to-date, it presents a good representation of how to navigate. You can also reach any page on the site by clicking on its name on the site map. The "Our Music" page contains links to 236 MIDI files, hymns from the 1982 Episcopal Hymnal on two separate pages in both alphabetical and numerical order, which you can call up by clicking on links. You must have a sound card and speakers capable of playing MIDI files to hear this music. The "Home" page has different hymns each week that you can listen to by clicking on them. Just scroll down the page to find them listed. There are approximately one hundred fifty web pages on this site. Ten of the links shown in the menu lead to more than one additional page. There are approximately one thousand one hundred graphics files. Our website includes over 200 Acrobat documents, over 130 GIF graphics, over 830 JPG graphics, and approximately 20 RealAudio files at any one time (1/1/2006) Our "Startup" page shows you how to make our site your browser's startup page. The "M.P. Möller Organ" page, accessible from the "Music" pages, describes our Möller organ, with text and photographs. "Hotels/Motels" lists hotels, motels, and bed and breakfasts in the Bluefield area. The list was compiled from information provided by the Bluestone Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Christ Church webmaster. The "Divine Vision" page is a fun way of seeing Christ in our lives. Be sure to see it before you leave the Christ Episcopal Church web site! These pages are accessible from the main page, upon first entering the site. The Photo Album includes 26 pages and over 150 photos of our members Another helpful page lists Episcopal church web pages in West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Florida. It is accessible from the "Links" page . This page is part of this site. Well over three hundred churches are listed. If you know of any which are not listed here, please let us know. Click on "Stained Glass" and on "History" to see much more than the menu first appears to show. The "Stained Glass" section includes twelve pages, the first of which includes links to pictures of the eleven styles of stained glass windows in our church. "History" summarizes the history of the Episcopal Church in our region. Colonial America, the Diocese of West Virginia, and our Church in Bluefield are featured here. This section includes ten pages, featuring photographs of former senior wardens and former priests, dating from the early 1900's until present. There are also links to biographies of our two "Historians" who were responsible for developing the church history shown here. Click on "Links" to see a large list of Episcopal and religious-related links. Three links on this page, "Bluefield West Virginia Churches," "Bluefield Virginia Churches," and "Complete list for Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Florida" are part of the Christ Church site. The "1995 Homecoming" graphic shown on the main page leads to two additional pages, including a very large (312 KB) graphic which can be viewed or downloaded. This graphic may be the widest photograph you have seen on the internet. Our gratitude is extended to the following organizations for permission to use copyrighted seals or logos within this document: The
Diocese of West Virginia We express our deep appreciation to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Newport News, Virginia, for their work collecting hymns from the 1982 Hymnal, and The Episcopal Diocese of Texas for their professional treatment of an introduction to the Episcopal Church featured on our home page. There are many other links used on this site, too numerous to mention, but all of which add to the usefulness of the Christ Church web site and for which we are eternally grateful. And last (but not least), we thank Craig Curry of Trinity Episcopal Church in Parkersburg, West Virginia, for the masthead and footer designs used on the web site. He was the creator of this design, and his work is greatly appreciated. Thanks for visiting! We hope you enjoy it.
