This photograph was taken on November 16, 2002, illustrating the fall and winter planting in the columbarium.  Plantings are chosen to make this beautiful place attractive year-round.

What in the world is a columbarium?

Traditionally, graveyards were adjacent to church buildings, but this practice is less and less possible today.  A columbarium makes it possible for people’s remains to be in or near their beloved Christ Church, reminding us of the communion of the saints, both living and dead.

Our columbarium at Christ Church is a solemn reserved space where our memorial garden once stood and where the ashes (cremains) of deceased church members can be placed and noted with an engraved stone.  In addition, there are places for memorial stones with inscriptions for those who are unable to inter cremains and want a remembrance of their loved ones displayed.

Presently there are 376 niches (a number that could be expanded in the future) and 198 places for memorial inscriptions.  Download the chart (below) to see the layout.
